Fernando Flores‘ life reads like fiction. In his late twenties, the Finance Minister of the Salvador Allende government in Chile. Having been imprisoned by the Pinochet regime, he became a cause celebre in the West and eventually, with the help of Amnesty International, found his way to Stanford University as a research fellow.
At Stanford, Flores worked with Terry Winograd (the same Winograd who supervised Larry Page and Sergey Brin) and came also to collaborate closely with Hubert Dreyfus, the Berkeley philosopher. Today, Flores is a Chilean Senator and an internationally respected technology theorist and critic.

Andrew Keen interviews:
… one of the most outspoken digital visionaries in Europe today. Smiers might even be more bullish and idealistic about the transformative power of digital media than his contemporaries In Silicon Valley. He sees the digital revolution as contributing to altering the imbalance of power between the industrial and non-industrial world. Most radically of all, Smiers envisions a time when we have done away with intellectual property, thereby doing away with personal ownership of all creative content.
Joost Smiers is Professor in Political Science at the Utrecht School of the Arts, in the Netherlands.

Steve Singer talks with:
Don Tapscott, co-author, with Anthony D. Williams, of Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything. In its latest incarnation, Tapscott says, the World Wide Web has become a communal experience–collaborators from anywhere and any walk of life now have the ability to solve problems and produce results through the use of collective wisdom. Although some business leaders may find the prospect of this kind of openness rather frightening, Tapscott believes that leveraging the new wave of community is the way of the future.

Andrew Keen interviews:
Professor Hubert Dreyfus of UC Berkeley’s Philosophy department and author of What Computers Still Can’t Do: A Critique of Artificial Intelligence, is probably the most distinguished critic of artificial intelligence on the planet. As the author of Thinking in Action: On the Internet and Mind over Machine, Dreyfus is also a leading critic of digital culture and technology. Talking with Dreyfus was a treat. His wit and erudition represent a refreshing break from much of the sanctimonious techno-babble emanating out of Silicon Valley.
